What’s Happening 22nd June 2012
Hi All,
Back at the Kinsale Community School at 7.00 PM.
This week we’re going to split the main group into two smaller groups:
- Scratch: For those of you still getting to grips with Scratch and the younger ones you will be continuing on with the space tutorial we started at the last session. Here’s the tutorial: http://www.hairbychas.com/scratch/home.html. Please print this out if you want to do more Scratch.
- Alice: This is a development tool that is similar in many ways to Scratch, but does lots more. It’s also more complex and aimed at older kids (say, 12 years or older).
Alice is developed by the Carnegie Mellon University and you can find out all about it here: http://www.alice.org/index.php
You will need to install Alice on your computer from this page:
http://www.alice.org/index.php?page=downloads/download_alice2.2
(Windows and Mac versions are available).
Duke University have some great tutorials to get you going: http://www.cs.duke.edu/csed/alice09/tutorials.php#gettingStarted.
We’ll be doing their Kangaroo tutorial: aliceEssentialsKangarooHandout (PDF). You will be able to save your animations and view them as movies:
See you there!
